BLM Rawlins seeking comment on visual resources and areas of critical environmental concern documentation

Views

RAWLINS – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Rawlins Field Office (RFO) is seeking public comment on an environmental assessment analyzing a visual resource amendment and documentation of Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACECs) for the 2008 Approved Rawlins Resource Management Plan (RMP).

The RFO completed a new visual resource inventory in 2010. That inventory, along with other resource information, will be included in the analysis for visual resource management (VRM) decisions to be incorporated into the Rawlins RMP. This review will not include the decision area for the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Wind Energy Project, as that proposal included its own VRM Amendment to the Rawlins RMP.

Also, certain ACECs recommended for designation in the 2008 Approved Rawlins RMP were not adequately documented in the administrative record, because the BLM did not review or consider relevance and importance criteria for these areas at that time. Areas being analyzed are: McCarty Canyon, areas surrounding the North Platte Reservoirs, Flattop Mountain, Ferris Dunes and Ferris Mountain.
