ROCK SPRINGS – The Border States Racing Series was in town for racing action on July 3rd and 4th. The series brought IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sport Mods from New Mexico, Nevada, Idaho, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming to race at Sweetwater Speedway.
The IMCA Modified main event on Friday saw some great racing action. There was fierce battling for the win between Justen Yeager of Green River and Eddie Belec of Arvada, Colorado, but Belec took home the win. The drivers went from green flag to checkered flag with no cautions and putting several cars laps down.
On Saturday, the race track was dry slick and several were competing for the win. Jake Donnelley, Eddie Belec, Ricky Alvarado, were running three wide when a late race caution and lap traffic took Eddie Belec out of contention. The race restarted with one lap to go and another caution had the race ending under red. Several cars were damaged, but all drivers walked away. Jake Donnelley took home the win that night and he is currently the IMCA Modified Points Leader at the speedway.
The Sport Mod was dominated on Friday night by Jesse Baldwin of New Mexico. He won the main event followed closely by Chuck Delp. On Saturday it was the Wright show with Kevin Wright finishing first, son Justin finishing second and son Jason finishing forth. Kenny Vollmer of Idaho snuck his way up to a third place finish.
On Saturday the High County Dwarf Car Association out of Vernal made the trip over to put on a show. It was Casey Hofer from Fort Bridger who took home the win in this class. Those cars are quick!
The Street Stocks had a few new cars from Utah join this weekend. There were great battles both nights, and Gene Henrie from Utah showed up the local talent by taking home the win both nights. On September 19th we will be hosting the Intermountain Super Stock class to run with our Street Stocks. This will be a points race for their series and hopefully bring 15 more cars to our speedway.
Racing action will resume on August 14th and 15th. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, Kids/Seniors $5 (Kids 7-12), Kids 6 and under are free, family ticket packs are available every night, which includes 2 adult tickets, 2 kids tickets for just $20.
Sweetwater Speedway Officials informed drivers and fans they are unable to make up the rain-out on another weekend due to races at other tracks and the Events Complex Schedule. Instead, they will be holding two main events on August 15th. One during the day and the other at the regularly scheduled time. More information to follow.
The complete finishes for the races are as follows. For more information, visit us on Facebook at Sweetwater-Speedway or the website at www.sweetwaterspeedway.webs.com.
