UPDATE– An autopsy is being conducted in Loveland, Colorado Thursday on the body of 53-year-old Marvin Dean Ortega, of Lyman, Wyoming, a contract worker who died as the result of a fall Tuesday afternoon at the Jim Bridger Power Plant east of Springs near Point of Rocks.
Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dick Blust said that investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and the Sweetwater County Coroner’s Office were on scene at the Jim Bridger plant on Tuesday, and the investigation continues today.
Blust no there are no indications of foul play. Ortega was employed by the Babcock & Wilcox Company.
SWEETWATER COUNTY — Rocky Mountain Power Public Relations Specialist David Eskelsen has confirmed a fatal accident occurred today at the Jim Bridger Power Plant around 5:00 p.m.
An external contract employee working for a Babcock & Wilcox, was killed in the incident.
According to Detective Dick Blust with the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office the incident is under investigation.
Blust said that the victim suffered a fall and was transported to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.
Eskelsen issued the following statement:
We are saddened to confirm that there was a fatal accident today at Jim Bridger plant. It occurred about 5 p.m. MDT.
We have few details we can provide at this early stage. Until family is notified, we are not releasing the name, other than it was a contract employee working on construction of additional emission controls at the plant.
We will coordinate with all authorities as this accident is investigated. Both PacifiCorp and our contractors are focused highly on safety as the first priority for all employees.
