SWEETWATER COUNTY — Preliminary reports indicate two people were seriously injured in a chain-reaction crash today. Lt. Scott Kean of the Wyoming Highway Patrol said that the driver of a semi truck traveling west-bound on I-80 at the 146 mile post lost control of his vehicle, slid sidewise and became trapped between a guard rail and bridge, blocking traffic.
Kean said that some vehicles successfully stopped behind the trapped semi but other drivers were not able to stop, triggering the chain reaction crash.
The two critically injured in the wreck were flown to Salt Lake City. Three non-critically injured victims were taken by ground ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs.
Kean said emergency responders were just getting the road open as of 6:52 pm.
More info will be released in the morning according to Kean.
