Wyoming has always been home to me. I grew up on a ranch near Rawlins, where I learned early that hard work, personal responsibility, and keeping your word matter. Those lessons have guided me throughout my career in public service, business, and the military—and they are a big part of why I am running to become Wyoming’s next Secretary of State.
My name is CJ Young, and I believe Wyoming deserves a Secretary of State who understands the office, is prepared to lead on day one, and remembers that the job is to serve all of Wyoming.
I previously served as Wyoming’s Elections Director, working with county clerks and election officials throughout our state. I have also owned a Wyoming small business, served as Military and Veterans Liaison for Wyoming’s congressional delegation, and today continue serving our country as a U.S. Navy Reserve intelligence officer.
Those experiences have taught me that good government isn’t measured by headlines. It is measured by whether government does its job well.
That matters in Sweetwater County.
Rock Springs, Green River, and the surrounding communities have long helped power Wyoming’s economy. Generations of families have worked in energy, mining, trona, transportation, the railroad, and the businesses that support those industries. Southwest Wyoming remains one of our state’s most important industrial corridors, while outdoor recreation and destinations such as the Green River and Flaming Gorge also bring visitors and economic activity into the region.
Wyoming should be a state where those industries can continue to succeed and where the next generation of businesses has an opportunity to grow.
As Secretary of State, one of my priorities will be continuing to improve Wyoming’s Business Division. Starting or operating a business should not require fighting unnecessary bureaucracy. I want to use technology responsibly to make state government faster and easier to work with while protecting the security and privacy of Wyoming citizens and businesses.
Election integrity will remain another priority. Having served as Elections Director, I understand firsthand that administering elections requires much more than political talking points.
Wyoming’s county clerks and their staffs do the hard work on the ground. As Secretary of State, I will work alongside them, listen to their concerns, and make sure they have the support necessary to keep Wyoming elections secure, accurate, and trusted.
Cybersecurity must also be part of that mission. Threats to election systems, government records, and businesses continue to evolve. My experience in elections, law, and military intelligence gives me a perspective that I believe will be valuable as Wyoming prepares for those challenges.
Most importantly, I want to be a Secretary of State for all Wyoming.
Cheyenne matters—but so do Rock Springs, Green River, Wamsutter, Farson, and every other community across our state. State government should remember that Wyoming does not end at the doors of the Capitol.
Whether you work in a mine, operate a small business, raise a family, work in energy, welcome visitors to our state, or simply want government to do its job well, you deserve a Secretary of State who will listen and work for you.
