Cinesio Sanchez (December 18, 1925 – December 13, 2013)

ROCK SPRINGS – Cinesio “Sandy” Sanchez, 87, of Rock Springs, Wyoming passed away on December 13, 2013 at his home. Mr. Sanchez was a longtime resident of Rock Springs, Wyoming and former resident of Arroyo Seco, New Mexico.

He was born on December 18, 1925 in Arroyo Seco, Taos County, New Mexico, the son of the late Jose Higinio Sanchez and Maria Macarita Sanchez Duran. Mr. Sanchez attended schools in Arroyo Seco and Taos, New Mexico.

He went into the CC Camp in 1942 and entered the United States Army in 1945 during World War II, where he served for three years.

Mr. Sanchez married Julia Cardenas in 1943. They met in Taos, New Mexico. Later they met in Richmond, California, where they both worked in the shipyards. He and his family moved to Tooele, Utah, where he worked in the copper mine (Smelda) until it shut down.

They moved to Superior, Wyoming in 1949 and worked in the coal mines. The family then moved to Winton, Wyoming where he worked at Stansberry Coal Mine, then back to Rock Springs, where he worked for West Vaco in 1953. In 1962, he worked for Stauffer Chemical until his retirement in 1987.

Cinesio and Julia divorced on May 5, 1969, and she passed away on October 20, 1983.

He and his companion, Doris Dove, enjoyed family dinners, outings, camping and traveling. They were together for thirty-seven years.

Doris became ill and entered Castle Rock Convalescent Center in July, 2011.

Mr. Sanchez loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He traveled to Thermopolis, Wyoming, after camping in the mountains, to swim in the hot springs and to soak his bones. His favorite pastime was walking the college track in Rock Springs during spring, summer and autumn seasons. In the winter, he walked in the mall and Wal-Mart, where he met many friends.

He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #151.

Survivors include one son Nelson Sanchez and wife Jenny of Tucson, Arizona; three daughters, Jane Pacheco and husband Robert of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Dorothy Turner and husband Tom of Green River, Wyoming and Barbara Williams and husband David of Rock Springs, Wyoming; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Julia Cardenas Sanchez, one daughter, Joann Pineda, two sisters, Evilia Duran Madrid and Donaciana Duran Gallegos; two brothers, Salome and Felipe Duran; one granddaughter, Starla Sanchez and two grandsons, Jimmy Jason Pacheco and Daniel Pineda.

The family of Cinesio Sanchez will be receiving relatives and friends at 715 Randolph Street , Rock Springs, Wyoming.

The family of Cinesio Sanchez respectfully request that donations in his memory by made to the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Center, 2400 Reagan Avenue in Rock Springs, Wyoming 82901. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the Saints Cyril & Methodist Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Avenue, Rock Springs, Wyoming. A vigil service with rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. Monday, December 16, 2013 at the church.

Military Honors and Interment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
