ROCK SPRINGS — An ordinance that would allow for city-wide curbside recycling services took another step forward tonight after the second reading of the ordinance was passed unanimously.
During the Rock Springs City Council meeting tonight, the Council read an ordinance amending Article 4-2 under the Rock Springs ordinance called “Garbage Collection,” to establish a citywide disposable waste recycling program for a second time. However, the second reading did include a few amendments.
Both the Rock Springs City Attorney Richard Beckwith and Ray Lavato Recycling Center Board President Devon Brubaker made recommended changes to the proposed ordinance.
The changes made were clarifying, adding or deleting language from the proposed ordinance. One of the changes suggested by Brubaker was adding a requirement for the collectors to inform residents of what recyclables are acceptable at least once per quarter. Another suggestion made by Brubaker was to add language about what kind of receptacle the recyclables can be placed in.
Beckwith told the Council he will make all of the changes and place the additions in the appropriate locations within the ordinance so it will be ready for the third and final reading at the Council’s next meeting.
