Council Approves Road Closures for Upcoming Events in Downtown Rock Springs

ROCK SPRINGS – Two requests to close roads for upcoming events were approved by the Rock Springs City Council.

The American Legion Riders event this Saturday will have a few small changes.

Members of the American Legion Riders approached the council on Tuesday night requesting a couple of small changes. The original request was to close South Main Street between E Street and D Street for the annual charity run. The group requested to extend the closure on South Main to Broadway. There is a wedding at Bunning Hall at the Transfer Station at 4 p.m. and they did not want interrupt the ceremony.

The second change was to extend the end time from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. The event starts at 10 a.m. Both changes were unanimously accepted.

The reason for the closure is so they could have biker games and to provide adequate parking. There will also be a live band outside from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. This year the annual charity run is 230 miles long and will include seven stops.

The second request approved was for a small parade on June 25. The Rock Springs Shrine Club is planning the parade as part of the annual ceremony which is at the Sweetwater Events Complex.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. at the Park Hotel. It will proceed along North Front Street, turning left on K Street, followed by another left onto 5th Street and back to the Park Hotel area. The parade will consist of people on foot, mini cars, and a vehicle or two. The anticipated time frame for the parade is approximately 15 minutes.
