Cowgirl Basketball Set to Face Nevada on Saturday

LARAMIE – The Wyoming women’s basketball team will close out the week on Saturday against the Nevada Wolf Pack. The game is set for 5 p.m. MT at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno. Live stats, video and audio can be found on the GoWyo.com website.

The Cowgirls enter the contest with a 12-3 overall record and 4-0 in league play after a 71-48 victory over the Utah State Aggies on Wednesday night in Logan. It’s the first time since the 2007-08 season that the Cowgirls have opened up league play 4-0 and the 12-3 mark equals the best start since the 2012-13 season. Junior Natalie Baker recorded her first double-double of the season with a season-high 17 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Marta Gomez was 5-5 from beyond the arc off the bench to finish with 17 points as well, while junior Liv Roberts scored 11 second half points to finish her night with 14 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Clara Tapia chipped in ten points and dished out four assists. Wyoming shot 28-58 (.483) from the field and a season-high 11-19 (.579) from beyond the arc, plus recorded 21 assists on 28 baskets.

Roberts leads the team averaging 15.7 points and 7.2 rebounds plus 2.2 assists. She ranks fifth in the MW in field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage, fifth in scoring and 13th in rebounding. In league games she is second in scoring, fifth in field goal percentage and tenth in rebounding. Gomez follows with ten points and 3.6 rebounds while Baker is adding 5.1 rebounds plus 8.5 points.

UW is shooting 356-820 (.434) from the field and 119-312 (.381) from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 67.8-53.3 and out rebounding teams 35.9-33.2. Wyoming ranks first in field goal percentage, three point field goal percentage, free throw percentage and assists.

Nevada enters the contest with a 6-9 overall record and 0-4 in league play. Last time out, the Wolf Pack dropped a 69-63 contest against New Mexico. Senior Stephanie Schmid leads the team with 14.1 points per contest. Sophomore AJ Cephas is averaging a team-high 8.1 rebounds while adding 8.3 points. As a squad, the Wolf Pack are shooting 370-948 (.390) from the field, averaging 71.0 points and 42.1 rebounds per contest.

This will be the 21st meeting between the two schools with Wyoming holding a 14-6 lead in the series. The last time the two teams met was January 20, 2016 with the Wolf Pack earning a 68-65 victory. Nevada is coached by Jane Albright who is in her ninth season with the program.
