RIVERTON – While Danny Macy battled to a third-place finish at the Ron Thon Tournament, the Rock Springs Junior Varsity team finished 11th with Ira Dickinson and John Nowland finishing with individual titles
On the varsity side, the Tigers were paced by Danny Macy at 113. Macy (22-5) enjoyed a bye in his first round but went to work in the second round scoring a fall over Star Valley’s Carter Hill at the 3:32 mark in the match.
In the quarterfinals, Macy faced Green River’s Nathan McCann. He was able to outlast McCann to take a 9-2 decision. As Macy took the mat in the semifinals, he looked across at Brodie Douglass. It went the distance and was very close but Macy fell in a 4-1 decision. Douglass eventually finished second overall.
While the loss was tough for Macy, he responded in the consolation semifinals. He faced off for the second time against Star Valley’s Hill and again scored a pin at 2:24. He followed that in the third-place match scoring an 8-1 decision over Dallas Taylor of Moorcroft.
On the JV side, Ira Dickinson paced the Tigers at 138. After a first-round bye, he made quick work of Torrington’s Nathan Davis scoring a win by pin 21 seconds in the match. In the third round, Dickinson again looked strong scoring a 15-6 major division win.
Dickinson coated in the quarters with a fall at 4:56 and again in the semifinals with another major decision, 16-2.
In the finals, Dickinson faced off against a familiar foe Green River’s Eric Clingenpeel. It was a high-scoring battle with Dickinson coming out on top, 14-10.
The second JV title for Rock Springs was provided by John Nowland at 182. Nowland also had a bye in the first round and scored a quick pin in the second at the 1:13 mark of the match. He followed it with another win by pin in the quarterfinals at the 4:55 mark.
In the semifinals, Nowland faced Powell’s Eli Briggs. Like his previous two matches, it was all Nowland as he scored his third fall in a row at the 4:22 mark. It was not a fall in the championship but again it was all Nowland. He faced Josh Atkinson of Laramie and took the title with a 10-1 major decision.

The Rock Springs Tigers will wrap up the season with a dual in Green River on Feb. 11. They will host the regional Tournament which starts Feb. 20.
Green River JV
The JV Wolves finished the Ron Thon with a sixth-place finish overall. Gabe Bunderman was Green Rivers sole title winner at 285. Bunderman won every match by pin with two coming in the first period.
At 138, Eric Clingenpeel came up one match short as he finished in second. He went 5-1 in the tournament but lost in the title match to Tiger Ira Dickinson in a 14-10 decision.
Kaycee Cochrane also finished second for the Wolves. He also went 5-1 and in the championship lost a heartbreaker to Rawlins’ Andrew Fossett by a 4-3 decision.
Also placing for Green River were James McCarter who finished in fourth place and Mikel Moser who battled to a sixth-place finish.
