DOUGLAS WYO — Beginning this month, the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) – Air Quality Division (AQD) will begin operation of a new long-term ambient monitoring station in Converse County, Wyoming.

The monitoring station is located northwest of Douglas near the center of Converse County with the objective of monitoring regional impact of future county-wide oil and gas development on air quality. This station includes gaseous monitors (NOx, O3 and methane/non-methane hydrocarbons), continuous PM10, a digital camera system, and meteorological instrumentation.

Data collected at this site may be used to determine compliance with air quality standards, to drive air quality modeling, or for comparison with other ambient air monitoring data.  With the deployment of the long-term air monitoring station, the AQD will move the mobile monitoring station, currently deployed in Converse County, to another area in the State.

Throughout the State of Wyoming, the AQD operates 25 Special Purpose Monitors, including 3 mobile monitoring stations, to characterize air quality at various locations.  Real-time concentrations and validated data from these monitoring stations can be found on www.wyvisnet.com.

To monitor and provide information to the public and other stakeholders on our state’s air quality, the Wyoming Air Quality Monitoring Network Website features live images and current air quality conditions from monitoring locations throughout Wyoming. Images are updated every 15 minutes and meteorological, air quality and visibility information is presented in near real-time.
