Derek Cooke Jr., former Wyoming Cowboy Forward and a big player in the fight for the Mountain West Championship last year, has been drafted by a Greek team.

After graduation, Cooke worked out with the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, and Washington Wizards. However, his agents said the NBA probably wouldn’t be an option this year.

When he received an offer from the Rethymno Cretan Kings, a basketball club on Greece’s island of Crete, he felt like it was something he couldn’t let slip away. Wednesday he signed a two year contract with the team.

He and his agents view this as an opportunity that will get him closer to playing in the NBA. Cooke, excited about this new opportunity, said the Rethymno Cretan Kings have a great history of helping players from their roster into the NBA, his end goal.
