ROCK SPRINGS — The Give/Take exhibition is a traveling art exhibition created by eleven women artists residing in Wyoming. Linked in our focused exploration of “nourishment”, each artist explores how we need, receive, and provide nourishment on many levels, including physical, mental, and spiritual. The concept seems particularly relevant today given the overwhelming amount of choices and information available, and given that the consequences of how we choose to nourish ourselves and others can have far-reaching impacts.
Works in the show will present a variety of interpretations of the concept such as: hunger and healthy eating, abuse, addiction, and the struggles of love and parenting. The show will invite viewers to think about how they both give and receive nourishment in their own lives and will consist of paintings, sculpture, original prints, ceramics, and installation pieces.
The concept of nourishment is inclusive of many social challenges our communities deal with today. The exhibition holds weight in its ability to speak to many classes and subcultures through these issues, bringing us together as humans who are the same in our most basic needs, but not necessarily the same in the solutions we seek. It is the artists’ hope that their interpretations will affect the viewer in a thought provoking and possibly healing or nourishing way.
