Glenn Sugano (August 29, 1947 – November 2, 2013)

ROCK SPRINGS – Glenn Sugano died November 2, 2013, in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He was born in Rock Springs on August 29, 1947, the son of William A. and Fusa Sugano.

Glenn attended schools in Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1965. He attended Western Wyoming College in Reliance and the University of Wyoming and received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.

He was a licensed professional engineer. Glenn worked for the Wyoming Highway Department for twelve years as a District Traffic Engineer and Resident Engineer. He served as the first Public Works Director for the City of Rock Springs for nineteen years, following which he was the General Manager for Sweetwater County Solid Waste District #1 until his retirement in 2008. During his tenure as Public Works Director he supervised Engineering, Buildings, Planning and Zoning, Public Housing, Streets, Water and Wastewater, as well as Parks and Recreation before it was created as a separate department.

He oversaw the construction of many public works projects including the Family Recreation Center, Sweetwater Drive, Rendezvous Subdivision, Foothill Boulevard Improvement District, Blairtown Park and Veterans Park. He also supervised the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery improvements and renovation of the Rock Springs Train Depot.

In 2010, Glenn was elected to serve on the Rock Springs City Council as a Councilman for Ward 4. Mr. Sugano served on several local and state boards as well as many city council subcommittees. He served as a member of the Sweetwater County Planning and Zoning Commission, President of the Wyoming Solid Waste and Recycling Association, and Chairman of the Waste and Water Advisory Board for the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality. At the time of his death he was the Chairman of the 6th Penny Joint Powers Board.

His interests included traveling, meeting people, socializing with friends and caring for his family and pets.

Glenn is survived by Nena James and family: John James, Kendra Braden and their son Drew; Lacey Capuano, son-in-law Vince Capuano and their children Kai and Halyn; Emily James, Jake Harmon and their children Jayleigh and Jack; and Haleigh James. He is also survived by one brother, Larry Sugano, of Arvada, Colorado; one sister, Linda Roper and her husband Rick Roper of Rock Springs; and one nephews, Eric Sugano and his wife Lindsay Sugano of Denver, Colorado. He leaves behind his faithful companion, his dog Abby, who was with him at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Kathy Sugano. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 12:00 noon at the Broadway Theater, 618 Broadway Street, Rock Springs, Wyoming.
