Government Funding Talks May Require a Special Session

SWEETWATER COUNTY — Drawn out discussion over local government funding between the House and Senate could lead to a special session being called to resolve the issue.

Sen. Bernadine Craft, D-Sweetwater County, said the Senate and House both agree on the $105 million for local governments. They don’t agree on the distribution formula.

The current formula being considered would not be beneficial to Sweetwater County; both Rock Springs and Green River would take big hits, no matter which position is accepted.

Sen. John Hastert, D-Sweetwater County, and Senator Craft both spoke against the current formula called the “Rothfuss formula.” The formula would hurt every community in Sweetwater County except Superior.

The first conference committee could not reach an agreement. A second conference committee was formed to try and reach a solution both houses agree on.
