GREEN RIVER — The Green River Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 14th Annual River Festival, August 14 & 15, 2015. The Chamber is a non-profit organization and is working to provide the community with a quality event for both spectators and participants.
The Festival begins Friday afternoon with event registration beginning at 4 p.m. At 5:00 p.m., we will again have a Cajun Shrimp Boil open to the public. Tickets will be sold in advance with 800 meals available. We will have tickets for sale in early July, make sure and get them early as we sell out every year! This year, you will have the option to purchase a 5:00 dinner ticket or a 6:30 dinner ticket—we will be having two serving times in hopes to alleviate the line and the congestion. Prices are $25.00 for adults $45 for a couple and $15 for Children 12 & under and seniors- per plate. The meal includes Cajun spicy style shrimp boiled with sausage, potatoes and corn! We will also be selling spaghetti served by Knights of Columbus as a fundraiser.
The Great Duck Race will take place at 7:30 p.m., which is a fundraiser for the Chamber and tickets are on sale now at the Green River Chamber. Tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20, and you do not need to be present to win. Fists of Funk will be performing on Friday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m. Fireworks start at dark and they continue to be a huge success. Free Kids games will begin at 4p.m. and we continue to add a variety of kid’s games.
Saturday, we will host the 12th Annual “Run with the Horses Marathon” to take place around the Wild Horse Loop Tour. The race will be professionally timed again this year. Timing is a lot more efficient and the results are immediate. The run will begin and end on Expedition Island. This event will also include a ½ Marathon and a 10 K run and will begin at 6 a.m. We had 150 participants for the Marathon last year. 32 states were represented. Locally, we again drew more from the surrounding area with the addition of the 10 K Run. Runners proceed through town, on to the Wild Horse Loop Tour and then turn and follow the same route back. There will be aid stations every two miles with water, PowerAde and energy snacks alternating at each station. Currently Race Directors, John and Terry Pawleska are working to continue the Race’s great reputation. We continue to promote our website specifically for the marathon- www.runwiththehorsesmarathon.com –visit our site to register today!
The Seedskadee Trout Unlimited Chapter #533 group will be doing the “River Walk” event again this year and will begin around 9 am and will follow along the green belt. Last year the event featured several informational stations such as: water and river safety, a fish obstacle course, aquatic invasive species, and many more. There were over 200 attendees for the River Walk.
Free Kids Games will continue on Saturday. Prizes and medals will be given out in each category. Fun games like watermelon eating contest, egg toss, tug a war with the firefighters and much more will run throughout the day.
The “Micro Brew Garden” will feature just micro-brews and be located under the big Corona tent. Micro Brew Garden will run Friday night and Saturday. There will also be a number of vendors on hand selling unique jewelry, artwork and other items. Food vendors will be on hand all through the day on Saturday. We are recruiting vendors that have unique products, artwork, jewelry and the like. Visit our website to view a vendor application if interested. There will also be entertainment on Expedition Island beginning at 11:30 am on Saturday; the band performing on Saturday is Ryan Chrys and the Rough Cuts from 11:30 am-4 pm.
Dog Fetching Competitions have been very popular and those will again take place at 11 am. Dogs will participate in a timed fetching event both in the water and on land. Dogs will fetch a stick or ball from the river and then again from land.
The Car Show on Evers Park will once again be hosted by the Sweetwater Rodders—so polish up your favorite ride. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, vintage and new are welcome.
