Granger Residents Still Being Impacted by Flooding

GRANGER – Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell issued an update Sunday afternoon on the flooding and last night’s evacuation in Granger, in western Sweetwater County.

On late Saturday afternoon and Saturday night, some 40 residents of the Trails West Trailer Court, about 1,000 yards east and downstream of the confluence of the Hams Fork and Blacks Fork Rivers, were evacuated when the waters of the Blacks Fork continued to rise.

Emergency responders at the scene last night included Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office deputies and command staff, Sweetwater County Emergency Management, officials of the Granger town government, and Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers.

Officials said a number of evacuees are being housed at the Community Center in Granger. No injuries have been reported stemming from the flooding.

Lowell said Sweetwater County Emergency Management is monitoring conditions in Granger. As of 2:30 PM water levels appear to have receded, but only slightly. He also asked that people who do not live in Granger or have legitimate business there avoid driving to the town.

“We are asking that everyone avoid the area for their own safety,” he said. “Water levels can change for the worse with little or no warning.”
