Green River Basketball Opens Season with Wins

GREEN RIVER – Both the Green River Wolves and Lady Wolves opened the 2016-2017 in dominant fashion as they swept Big Piney to open the Bridger Valley Tournament on Friday.

For the Wolves, they had four players score in double figures on their way to a 69-43 win over the Punchers on Friday. Devin Love and Cameron Morris both finished with 17 points to lead Green River. Gavin Heiser added 12 while Chance Hofer finished with 10 in the win. Both Love and Heiser each added six rebounds on the night.

The Wolves controlled the first half, taking a 24-10 lead after one and extended it to 43-21 at the half. Big Piney was in foul trouble for most of the game while the Green River’s defense forced 16 first-half turnovers. Love, Heiser and Hofer all hit double figures in scoring by halftime.

Big Piney settled down and had a much better second half but the big first half was too much for the Punchers to overcome.

The Lady Wolves also had a dominate performance against Big Piney on Friday. Taylor Stoeger led the way with 18 points while Andri Dewey added 16 in the 30-point win, 68-38.

The Lady Wolves will play twice Saturday as the Bridger Valley Tournament continues. They take on the Lady Eagles of Lyman at Lyman at 9:30 a.m. Th Wolves will also place twice as they to will open against Lyman in Lyman at 12:30 p.m.
