Green River Basketball Will Honor Local Veterans Thursday

GREEN RIVER – After strong play in the non-conference portion of the schedule, the Wolves and Lady Wolves will open conference play at home on Thursday against Evanston. Along with conference basketball, the teams will be honoring local veterans.

GRHS announced military appreciation night as the teams will honor the men and women who bravely served the country. All veterans will receive free admission to the games along with free popcorn and drink. Along with the games, there are also special activities and performances planned.

The Lady Wolves get underway at 6 p.m. while the Wolves will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Lady Wolves vs. Lady Red Devils

The ladies of Green River have a non-conference record of 6-3 and sit second in the 4A West. Evanston finished 5-7 and are currently fifth in the conference. Both teams are coming off losses to ranked opponents last time out. Green River fell to third-ranked Laramie while Evanston fell to Star Valley who is currently ranked second in 3A.

The Lady Wolves are led by Taylor Stoeger who is averaging right around 15 points, seven rebounds and 3.7 assists a game. Madelyn Heiser is averaging 11.3 points per game for Green River. Evanston is led by Emmery Wagstaff who is scoring 13.2 points per contest.

Wolves vs. Red Devils

The Wolves finished their best non-conference run in several years going 5-4 and are currently second in the 4A West. The Red Devils are right behind with a 6-6 record in non-conference play. Both teams are coming off wins last time out. Green River beat Laramie by double digits while Evanston won Star Valley in a low scoring affair, 36-25. Both teams received votes in this week’s rankings.

Green River is led by Devin Love who is averaging 12 points and two assists per game. Cameron Morris and Gavin Heiser are also averaging in double figures in points for the Wolves. Jesse Barker leads Evanston with 10.6 points, two assists and two steals per game.
