ROCK SPRINGS – A long season was put to sleep and a new one started Friday as Regional wrestling hit mats around the state. Both Rock Springs and Green River have many wrestlers still alive after day one.
As a team, Green River has ended day one in first place. They are 12.5 points against second-place Natrona. Evanston finished in third while Riverton finished in fourth. After the first day, Rock Springs sits in fifth place with 34 points, four points behind Riverton. Kelly Walsh rounds out the six teams.

Green River has two wrestlers who will battle in the semifinals on Saturday. Both are on opposite sides of the bracket. Caleb Nathan only had one match and won by fall 1:37 to move into the top four. Cryo Montonya only had one match and he made fast time of it with a pin in 35 seconds.

Rock Springs has two in the semifinals while Green River has one. Danny Macy won his only match of the day scoring a fall at 1:17. Trevor Ryan also moved into the semis for Rock Springs with a fall at 1:56 in his only match of the day. Green River’s Nathan McCann had two byes on Friday and will face Ryan in the semifinals on Saturday.

Green River’s Cole Verner did not wrestle on Friday as he had two byes. He will wrestle in the semifinals on Saturday. Tiger Wyatt Martinez lost in his only match of the day but is still alive in the consolation bracket.

Wolves wrestlers Gage Byers and Chase O’Melia are both in the semifinals on opposite sides of the bracket. Byers scored a fall in his only match while O’Melia beat Tiger Patrick Debaun to move into the semis. Debaun bounced back scoring a win by fall in the consolation bracket. He will continue in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

Green River has two in the semifinals at 132. Kayce Cochrane won a close 5-3 decision on Friday to earn his spot in the semis. Jared Flores beat Rock Springs wrestler Wyatt Yenney to move into the semis. Yenny won his opening round match by pin but fell to Flores. He responded in the consolation bracket winning his next by fall to move on to Saturday action. Slade Pitt lost in the quarterfinals but is still alive after scoring a win by pin in the consolation bracket.

Green River has two in the semifinals at 138. Eric Clingenpeel won his only match of the day scoring a fall at the 58 second mark to move to the semis. Colton Hopkins also won by fall to earn his spot in the semifinals. Tiger Ira Dickinson los in his opening match but responded with a win in the consolations to move on to Saturday.

Shandon Welsh opened with a win by pin and scored a technical fall to move into the semifinals. He will face teammate Zack Orr in the semis as Orr won by a 15-10 decision. William Petrovich had a strong Friday and will represent Rock Springs in the semifinals. He won two matches on Friday both by falls in the first period, one in 42 seconds and one in 51 seconds. Joe Walker won by fall to open but lost in the quarters. He is still alive after winning by fall in the consolation bracket.

Kole Case is in the semifinals for Green River. He won two on Friday with a fall and technical fall. Austin Waters is on the opposite side of the bracket as he moved into the semis with two wins, one against Tiger Brayden Stassinos. Christian Fennewald and Stassinos faced off against each other in the consolation bracket as Fennewald moved on with a win by rule.

The Wolves have one in the semifinals at 160. Edgar Alatorre won by fall to open and scored a 9-3 decision to move into the semifinals. Tiger Dawson Lorenz is still alive after winning in the consolation by injury.
