Green River Legislators Host Town Hall

GREEN RIVER — According to a press release, Green River’s three Wyoming Legislators, Sen. John Hastert, Rep. Stan Blake, and Rep. John Freeman, will hold a Town Hall on April 6, 2017, at the Golden Hour Senior Center with doors opening at 6 pm.

The General Session of the 64th Wyoming legislature ended on March 3rd. The main focus of the session was balancing the state’s budget made necessary because of declining energy prices. The Legislature and Governor Mead have cut Wyoming’s budget $350,000,000 in the last 14 months reducing the number Wyoming state employees by 224.

Wyoming’s funding crisis was especially noticeable in Wyoming’s K12 education system where there remains a $350,000,000 to $500,000,000 budget gap for the operations of Wyoming’s 48 school districts.

InadditiontoK12’s operations shortfall has dried up the state’s funding source for school construction and has dried up, leaving the state without funds to build needed schools or the ability to repair current buildings.

The legislature also dealt with issues relating to the State Penitentiary, State Hospital, Life Resource Center, the Capital Squire Project, water projects, liquor laws, wildlife, economic diversification, firearms in public places, public health, sales taxes, and many other issues.

The evening will start at 6 pm with legislators greeting citizens as they arrive. At 6:30 pm each legislator will give a brief recap of the session followed by questions. They hope that you can join Green River’s Legislators Thursday night.
