GREEN RIVER – This year the URA/Main Street Agency is combining two traditional events into one gathering to kick off the Christmas Season, and celebrate community and good will. The event, Santa’s Arrival & the Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, Saturday December 14th, 2013. Please remember to bring a non-perishable food item for the food bank.
There will be a few vendors from downtown businesses, hot beverages and gifts for the kids, not to mention Santa – so make sure your little ones bring their lists. The park will be decorated and we will have heating lamps and fire pits manned by volunteer Boy Scouts to drive ol’ Jack Frost away.
The URA/Main Street is holding this holiday event in Centennial Park and we hope that it will be just the start of a long tradition in Green River. As this event grows over the years we would like it to become a Holiday Village with a vintage feeling of sentimentally reminiscent of a simpler time. In the future, we hope to have multiple vendors, Christmas carolers, and children’s activities.
Events like this do not just magically happen; some of your neighbors give of themselves, their time and energy, to help to create special events for their community. We would like this event to grow, to improve our other events and find new ways to serve our community and businesses. We need your help to make that happen. Please consider volunteering with URA/Main Street; we need people with vision and energy and who are willing to spare a little of their time to make Green River and even more wonderful place to live.
Get into the Christmas spirit and join us on December 14th for what will be a fun and festive afternoon for the whole family! For more information contact us at 307- 872-0592 or visit our Facebook page Green River Urban Renewal/ Main Street Agency.
