Green River Tennis Ready for Regionals

GREEN RIVER – Tennis teams from around the state head to Cheyenne this weekend chasing Regional titles. For Green River, hopes are high heading in.

After a strong weekend at home to wrap up the regular season, Green River High School Tennis is ready to make a run for a regional title. Early in the week, the South Regional matchups were announced.

The Marchal brothers, Gregory and Patrick, and Anna Ujvary have been considered among the best in the South. The Marchals will open in the No. 1 doubles spot with a team from Cheyenne South while Ujvary will play Alicha Corbin from East. Ujvary and Corbin faced off this past Saturday with Ujvary winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Jacob Lock has had a solid season from the No. 1 singles spot for Green River and opens his tournament run with Laramie’s Kyle Moore.. Lock beat Moore in a tight, three-set battle this past weekend,  2-6, 7-5, 6-2. At the No. 2 singles spot, Brendan Bloomquist faces one of the favorites, Torrington’s Ethan Creagar.

Andrew Halverson and Cody Lee will represent Green River at the No. 2 doubles spot and  takes on the team from Cheyenne East. Halverson and Lee won a recent match between the two teams in straight sets only losing three games. At the No. 3 doubles spot Karsyn Bental and Josh Graves face Rawlins. Bental and Graves beat the Rawlins team earlier in the year, 6-0 and 6-1.

At No. 2 singles on the ladies side, Haylen Cordova will have a tough matchup against Laramie’s Lea Bergman. The No. 1 doubles team of Isabel Leininger and Alex Palmer open against Cheyenne East. The No. 2 doubles team of Ashlyn Edwards and Kaitlyn Sharp takes on Rawlins while the No. 3 team of Audrie Harrison and Kelby Pope has already advanced to the second round with a bye in the first.
