GREEN RIVER — The Green River Police Department (GRPD) will apply for a Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funds (CESF) sub-grant in hopes of purchasing new portable radios.

The Green River City Council authorized the GRPD to apply for the sub-grant to purchase the new portable radios to assist other Sweetwater County law enforcement agencies.

The Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigations applied for and was awarded a CEFS Grant in 2020 as part of the first round of Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act funding. The grant is intended to be sub-awarded to law enforcement agencies within the state to prevent, prepare, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of Sweetwater County law enforcement’s COVID-19 response plan, agencies throughout the county are meant to assist each other when necessary. However, recent Wyolink radio installations in Rock Springs are not compatible with the current portable radios used by the GRPD, which are approximately 15 years old according to meeting documents.

“Dual-band portable radios are needed for interoperability with the new system in Rock Springs, are essential to maintaining the ability to assist other agencies operating inside buildings in the Rock Springs area, and therefore a critical component of the Sweetwater County law enforcement COVID-19 response plan,” the meeting documents state.

The purchase of the radios would allow the GRPD to operate with the system in Rock Springs. The anticipated cost of the new radios is approximately $110,000 with no local match required for grant.

Amanda Potts-Baker was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a three-year term beginning September 1, 2021 and expiring August 31, 2024.

Tina Porter was reappointed to serve another three-year term on the Planning and Zoning Commission beginning September 1, 2021 and expiring August 31, 2024.
