WYOMING –– The political landscape has shifted in Wyoming following Tuesday’s Primary Election.
Harriet Hageman earned the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate following an overwhelming victory over her challengers. According to unofficial results from the Wyoming Secretary of State’s Office, Hageman received 83,794 votes. Her closest challenger, former Kirby Mayor Sam Mead, earned 35,875. Jimmy Skovgard took third in the race with 3,525 votes, while Jill Edwards placed fourth with 3,431, and John Holtz took fifth with 2,539. Hageman will face Democrat James Byrd in November following his victory in the Democratic Primary, earning 9,589 votes to opponent Billy Benavidez’s 2,497.
Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray won the Republican nomination for U.S. House following a nine-person race in the Primary. Gray earned 31,222 votes, with Steve Friess placing second with 25,054. Kevin Christensen took third with 21,632 votes, Jillian Balow placed fourth with 12,590 votes, Reid Rasner finished fifth with 10,807, David Giralt took sixth 10,130, Bo Biteman placed seventh 6,255 votes, Keith Goodenough earned eighth with 3,341 votes, and Richard Dodson finished ninth with 1,777.
Gray will face Democrat Lisa Kinney in the General Election. Kinney defeated Elena Del Real after earning 9,343 votes to Del Real’s 2,657.
Eric Barlow won the Republican nomination for Wyoming Governor, defeating Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder and two other challengers. Barlow received 58,820 votes, while Degenfelder earned 38,739. Brent Bien received 30,843 and Curt Blake earned 2,161 votes. Barlow faces Democrat Kenneth Casner in November. Casner was uncontested in the election.
Robert Short defeated Freedom Caucus Chairman Rachel Rodriguez-Williams in the GOP Primary for Secretary of State. Short received 53,314 votes to Rodriguez-Williams’ 38,567. CJ Young took third with 17,846 votes, while Qwenton Eagle Oviatt placed fourth with 7,087. Short will face Democrat Bryan McCarty in the General Election.
Republican Curt Meier will remain the Wyoming Treasurer after fending off a challenge from Scott Smith. Meier received 78,702 votes while Smith received 36,613. Meier will be uncontested in the General Election.
Longtime Natrona County educator and legislator Steve Harshman won the GOP nomination for Superintendent of Public Instruction, Harshman earned 67,784 votes, while opponents Tom Kelly and Chad Auer received 36,624 votes and 12,636 votes respectively. Harshman faces Democrat Ana Cordova in November after she defeated opponent Sergio Maldonado Sr. for the nomination. Cordova received 7,300 votes while Maldonado earned 4,314.
