Welcome to the #HOMETOWNHUSTLE – a new SweetwaterNOW exclusive series, brought to you in partnership with Commerce Bank, where we highlight hardworking business owners in our community.
This week we had a chance to catch up with Tina Curran, owner, and operator of home-based business, Stems & Co. to learn more about how she is making customer’s floral and event design dreams come true.
Tina specializes in creating unique floral arrangments and event design. She prides herself on her unique and trendy style – that you otherwise would not be able to find in the area.
Tina started Stems & Co. as a side project in 2017, occasionally helping out friends and family with small parties until it eventually turned into the success it is today, and Stems & Co. doesn’t plan on plateauing anytime soon, Tina has plans for growth.
“We are still learning new things about the floral industry every day and will continue with education in all areas to make sure we keep growing” Curran stated.
The success of Stems & Co. did not come without challenge. Tina is a mom of three, and her husband works shift work. Time management has been an essential part of her journey while trying to balance the responsibilities of being a stay at home mom, wife, and business owner.
“I’ve overcome this challenge by becoming a planner, and figuring out how to maximize the limited amount of hours in a day.”
For Tina, the most satisfying moment in business is seeing events like the Bootlegger Bash or a wedding come together successfully after all of the hard work of designing, creating, and planning.
When asked about her favorite part of being a business owner, Tina answered, “My favorite part of all of this is being able to be free to create unique floral pieces for my clients based on their own personal preferences and floral tastes.”
She even put together an arrangement of pickles and believe it or not it was beautiful. (Keep scrolling to see it!)
Stems & Co. in three words…
Unique. Personal. Creative.
Curran’s idea of business success is the feedback and feeling she gets from satisfied customers and having the business freedom as well as the ability to create designs without any organizational constraints.
“It makes me feel so good when I know I made someone’s event, wedding, or day better.”
Throughout her business venture, Tina has cultivated some helpful advice for aspiring business owners. “Running a business is time-consuming and stressful at times. Have a support system in place to become successful, made up of family, employees, or friends.”
Tina attributes her ability to run her flourishing business, to her support system. “They help with every aspect of the business, from deliveries to making me special containers on a whim, to helping with the kids or having encouraging words when I’m doubting myself. They are always there.”
Tina says the ‘Co.’ part of Stems & Co. is her husband and her parents. She’s the creative genius, but they are always willing to lend a hand with the rest!
