ROCK SPRINGS – With partial occupancy granted by the state, the cancer center staffed and almost ready to roll, and parts of the new building ready to open later this month, Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County has run into a new problem with the medical office building, an address.
Currently the MHSC street address is 1200 College Drive which encompasses the entire property. Chief Executive Officer Jerry Klein said they have been working with the city to have two different address for the two buildings on site.
Instead of separate address, the city would rather see 1200 College Suite A and 1200 College Suite B. Klein said even if they did go with that option, there would still be many of the same issues.
Klein said that routing payments would be complicated by a similar address. He explained that the reimbursements would go to one address but could be for separate buildings. Staff would then have to go through each reimbursement by hand and make sure it makes it to the proper place.
Having two separate addresses would eliminate this problem. Klein said there would be similar issues with deliveries including supplies and medicines which could be critical if not sent to the right place.
Klein concluded by saying they are still working closely with the city to resolve the address issue.
Talking about the new medical office building, MHSC and Plan One Architects had another round of tours of the new building. Klein said approximately 65 people took the tour, most of which were hospital staff.
Investments
Recently Chief Finance Officer Irene Richardson and Klein met with Sweetwater County Treasurer Robb Slaughter to discuss investments. Klein said the county is getting a much better return on their investments than the hospital by a large percentage.
Klein explained they sat down with Slaughter who showed them what the county is doing and also showed them options they might investigate further.
“Robb has been more than helpful and willing to meet with us,” Klein said,
Master Plan
As construction on the medical office building began so did the talk of future expansion and the best way to use the property. Charlie Van Over with Plan One Architects brought in Engineering Firm HDR from Colorado to make a master plan of the land.
Klein reported on recent talks with the companies. The master plan and report should be done and given to the board around the middle of December.
“We are really interested to see what they say,” Klein said.
Personnel
Dr. Melinda Poyer has agreed to stay on as President of the Medical Staff for one more year.
The hospital also hired its first female OB/GYN, Preetpal Grewal. She is a Texas native and has family in this area. She will start on March 31. Klein also said he has been contacted by the University of Utah about another female OB/GYN who wants to stay in the U of U system and has shown interested in MHSC because of this.
Meeting change
With the next scheduled meeting falling on Jan. 1, the date was moved to Jan. 8 because of the holiday.
