ROCK SPRINGS — The Rock Springs Lady Tigers earned a 3-0 victory over the Riverton Lady Wolverines Tuesday night, picking up a conference win while continuing their strong stretch following last weekend’s Silver Bracket championship at the Casper Invite.
Rock Springs won the match 25-21, 25-15 and 25-14.
The match also featured a reunion between two coaches who previously worked together on the same staff at Green River High School.
Rock Springs head coach Casey Rood and Riverton head coach Jordan Christensen were assistant coaches together at Green River under Jessica Demaret. Rood is in her second season as Rock Springs’ head coach, while Christensen is in her first season leading the Riverton program.
On the court, Rock Springs established an early lead in the opening set, moving ahead 4-1 and later extending the advantage to 12-7. Riverton trimmed the deficit to two points at 9-7, but the Lady Tigers answered with a 15-7 lead after a timeout.
Riverton continued to battle, cutting the margin to 20-15 and later 23-20, but Rock Springs closed the set 25-21 to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Tigers carried that momentum into the second set, scoring four straight points to turn an early 2-2 tie into a 5-2 advantage. Rock Springs extended the lead to 13-6 and later 18-10 before taking a 23-11 lead. Riverton made a late push to cut the deficit to 24-15, but Rock Springs finished the set on the next point to win 25-15 and move within one set of the sweep.
Rock Springs came out quickly in the third set. A kill from Kati Moore followed by a kill from Kaycie Muniz helped the Lady Tigers take a 2-0 lead, and they eventually opened an 8-1 advantage.
Rock Springs continued to control the set, building leads of 11-2, 16-9 and 22-12. Riverton scored two straight to make it 22-14, but the Lady Tigers answered with the final three points. Hannah Millemon recorded a kill for a 24-14 lead, and Rock Springs finished the sweep on the next point, winning the set 25-14.
Rock Springs will travel to Cody on Saturday for a 2 p.m. varsity matchup.
