GILLETTE – After getting back to action in Cheyenne to open the season, the Rock Springs Lady Tigers took a leap forward in Gillette this past weekend. The ladies enjoyed their first taste of victory in Gillette with a fifth-place finish in the Bronze Bracket.

Rock Springs opened play with 2A Wright. The Tigers opened with a win right off the top, 27-25. Wright was able to respond taking the next two, 25-10 and 25-11. Rock Springs had opportunities to close it out but came up just short in game two, 26-24. In the end, Central would take the third and final set, 25-14.

Seeing the growth between the first game and the last match against Central, Rock Springs came out strong in the next match. Against Shoshoni, the Lady Tigers only allowed four points in the opening set to take the win. They followed it for the match with a 25-15 win in set two. It was the first win of the year for the young Lady Tigers.

The win moved them into the fifth-place match against another familiar opponent. Rock Springs would take on Cheyenne South, who also beat the ladies in three in opening weekend play. This time, it would be all Rock Springs. The Lady Tigers opened with an 11-point win in set one and followed it with a 25-19 win to take the fifth spot.

Ending strong in Gillette has the RSHS Lady Tigers ready for their first home match of the season. They will face rival Green River on Thursday at Rock Springs High School. Rock Springs Head Coach Stephanie Hardesty is excited for the challenge.

“Our girls worked extremely hard in Gillette this past weekend,” Hardesty said. “I messed around with a few different lineups and found one that I am pleased with.  The girls had the 8:00 PM game on Saturday and came out with some intensity that I haven’t seen yet.  It was nice to see the girls ready to play.  I am excited to see the same intensity to start our conference play.”
