Lady Wolves End Four-Game Losing Streak in Jackson

JACKSON – The Green River Lady Wolves stopped a four-game losing skid winning their ninth game of the season with a 47-22 win over Jackson on Monday.

After a good first quarter, the Lady Wolves defense shut down Jackson in the final three. After giving up 10 in the first, Green River only gave up 12 points in the final three quarters with most of those coming at the end of the fourth quarter. Andri Dewey finished with 13 points to lead the ladies while Taylor Stoeger finished with 12 points and eight rounds. Ashelynn Birch finished with 8 points and 10 rebounds on the night.

It was an action packed start as both teams came out running to start the game. Taylor Stoeger got the scoring started but Jackson quickly answered with a three. Madelyn Heiser looked good in all aspects of the games as rebounds and assists led to points. She also added four early points as Green River jumped up three midway through the quarter, 10-7. Ashelynn Birch added six points late in the quarter as the Lady Wolves took the lead after one, 16-10.

Mallory Seymour, Stoeger and Dewey all scored to start the second as the Lady Wolves quickly extended the lead to double-digits. After a Lady Bronc bucket, a Birch putback kept the Lady Wolves up 12. The scoring slowed for the remainder of the quarter. A Dewey three with five seconds left put the ladies of Green River up 14, 27-13, heading into the break. Dewey finished with nine points in the first half while Birch finished with eight points and seven rebounds. Heiser and Stoeger each added four.

After a Jackson bucket to start the third, the Lady Wolves ran off six straight to go up 18. After another Bronc bucket, Stoeger, Dewey and Heiser all added points as the Lady Wolves took a 41-17 lead after three. Dewey scored her 13th of the game and Grace Johnson scored her first two to start the fourth as both teams emptied the benches. Jackson made a small run in the fourth but it was all Green River in the end.
