GREEN RIVER – Serving has been the strong point all year for the Green River Lady Wolves and on Tuesday it led to a three-set sweep of 3A Lyman.
The Lady Wolves took a break from conference play Tuesday night as they welcomed Lyman. The Lady Eagles entered the match 12-12 on the season. Green River is currently third in the 4A West with an 11-12 record overall. The ladies entered, coming off a big conference win against Rock Springs last time out.
The Lady Wolves are statistically one of the best serving teams in the state with Andri Dewey leading the way. From the start, Lyman struggled with the serve. Dewey had the ladies up early as they cruised to the first set win, 25-11. The second set mirrored the first as Green River rolled to a 25-12 win.
Lyman had a better third set but in the end, the Lady Wolves were too much as they took the sweep, 25-18. The win moved GRHS to 500 on the season but more importantly, gives them momentum heading into an important weekend.
On Thursday, 4A West-leading Kelly Walsh comes to town. The Lady Trojans are undefeated in conference play and 24-6 overall. Thursday’s meeting will be the third time the two teams have faced each other in the last several weeks. On Sept. 17, the Lady Wolves were swept in three. At the Casper Invitational on Sept. 23, Green River had a much better showing but lost in two close sets, 25-22 and 25-18.
On Friday, the Fillies of Natrona will make a stop in Green River. Natrona is second in the 4A West with its only conference loss coming against Kelly Walsh. Green River lost three sets to one in the two team’s last meeting.
