GILLETTE – It was another fourth-place finish for Green River Wolves Volleyball. This one came in the silver bracket at the Gillette Invitational over the weekend.
The invitational is one of the biggest volleyball tournaments in the state attracting teams from Montana, Nebraska and South Dakota. The tournament also features some of the best teams from 2A, 3A and 4A. The Lady Wolves seen a little of everything.
The ladies opened against Billings Montana West on Friday. Billings would start strong with a 25-16 win in the first. Green River would battle back and drop a close, second set, 26-24. Green River would respond to the loss to Billings but it would take a little work.
They would dominate Cheyenne South in the first game but fall in the second. The Lady Wolves would dig deep and take the third set, 25-17, and the match. Green River would wrap up the day with a strong, two-set win over 2A Big Horn, 25-23 and 28-26.
The 2-1 Friday record would but the Wolves in the Silver Bracket on Saturday. Green River would open in strong fashion against another 2A team, Glenrock, 25-16 and 25-13. The ladies would have to battle through a tough Sheridan squad to battle for a silver title.
The Lady Broncs would be a little too much as they would take down GRHS, 25-19 and 25-22. The long two-day battles took their toll on the ladies and in the third-place match, 3A Douglas would take the win, 25-16 and 25-18.

The Lady Wolves will get down to business as they travel to Rock Springs on Thursday. After a slow start in the first tournament of the year, the Lady Tigers had a solid tournament in Gillette. The team will then return to the road on Friday for a conference battle
