ROCK SPRINGS — The Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen volunteers were happy to receive a recent turkey and ham donation from local International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF).

The numerous turkey and ham donations will be used for the kitchen’s upcoming Thanksgiving Dinner next week. They are expecting about 80 to 90 people, according to Petra Hampton with the kitchen.

The IAFF has been donating to the kitchen for years and the donations are always appreciated. However, they are not the only ones who are donating. According to Hampton, numerous schools in Sweetwater County School District No. 1, including Black Butte High School, Rock Springs High School, Rock Springs Junior High, Pilot Butte Elementary, and Sage Elementary, donate canned food items every year.

“Those are the ones that really keep our pantry going through the winter,” Petra Hampton with the kitchen said.

On average, the schools donate around two truck loads full of food, which is put to good use, Hampton said.

About Loaves and Fishes
The Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen, located at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church basement, 633 Bridger Ave., Rock Springs, was founded in 1989 by the late Francis Koler with the goal of serving a hot meal daily to those in need.

Today, Loaves and Fishes is staffed and run by volunteers of different faith denominations who rotate
weekly to continue the goal of cooking and serving-up hot meals for its patrons, noon-1 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Loaves and Fishes’ pantry is stocked full of canned goods and bakery items donated from local grocery stores and others so patrons have access to food items, if necessary. Those wishing to make a monetary donation or who wish to donate acceptable food items to Loaves and Fishes may call the business office of Holy Spirit Parish Community, 362-2611 and someone will put you in touch with Harold, Paul, or Petra
Hampton.
