Local Agencies Request Grants for Training, Equipment Purchases

ROCK SPRINGS — Both the Rock Springs Police and Rock Springs Fire departments are asking the Rock Springs City Council permission to seek grants to improve their departments through trainings or the purchase of new equipment.

The RSPD is seeking permission to apply for the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program 2022. If the department is awarded the $15,427 grant, it will collaborate with police consulting services to develop and maintain policies and training. The RSPD will work with Sweetwater County to combine the JAG grant services.

According to a letter to the city from RSPD Interim Chief Bill Erspamer, “The monies are to be spent to collaborate with police consulting services to develop and maintain policies and law enforcement training focused on promoting trust, transparency, and accountability for the city of Rock Springs Police Department.”
