Local Tennis Teams Battle Through Second Week

SWEETWATER COUNTY — Green River and Rock Springs continued their tennis seasons this week with both programs facing a demanding schedule that included trips to Gillette on Thursday and matches against Jackson on Saturday.

Green River’s girls finished the week with a win over Jackson after dropping close duals to Campbell County and Thunder Basin. Rock Springs’ girls also closed the week on a high note, defeating Jackson 3-2 by sweeping all three doubles matches.

Green River

The Green River girls opened Thursday with a pair of 3-2 losses, falling to Campbell County and Thunder Basin.

Against Campbell County, Rylin Arnell earned a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Paedyn Coulter at No. 1 singles. Green River also picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, where Taylor Kendall and Bianca Maez defeated Urich and Holdeman 6-2, 6-1.

Campbell County won the other three matches. Kylie Groves defeated Meghan Thomas 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Arndt and Mills defeated Brynley Beutel and Sydney Lopez 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Walker and Ivory defeated Tanner and Johnson 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Arnell picked up another singles victory against Thunder Basin, defeating Liv Katschke 7-5, 6-4.

Green River also won at No. 1 doubles, with Beutel and Thomas defeating Reede and Stevens 2-6, 6-3, 10-7. Thunder Basin won the other three matches.

The Green River girls closed the week on a high note Saturday, defeating Jackson 4-1.

Arnell again won at No. 1 singles, defeating her Jackson opponent 6-3, 6-2. Green River swept the doubles matches, with Beutel and Thomas winning No. 1 doubles 6-1, 7-6. Kendall and Maez won No. 2 doubles 7-5, 6-1, while Emma Johnson and Katelyn Tanner won No. 3 doubles 6-2, 6-4.

The Green River boys faced a tougher week, dropping both Thursday duals to Campbell County and Thunder Basin before Jackson earned a 5-0 victory Saturday.

Green River did pick up individual wins during Thursday’s matches with Lucas Hokanson and Blaise Taylor won No. 2 doubles 6-4, 6-1 and Joe Lovato and Kyler Steiss also won at No. 3 doubles, defeating Mcmillin and Ostlund 6-2, 7-6.

Arnold bounced back against Thunder Basin with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Carter Rodgers at No. 1 singles. Green River’s Taylor and Hokanson also earned a win at No. 2 doubles, defeating Bayles and Nichols 2-6, 6-0, 10-8.

Thunder Basin won the other three matches, including a pair of match-tiebreaker victories.

Jackson swept the Green River boys Saturday, winning all five matches.

Rock Springs

Rock Springs also faced Campbell County and Thunder Basin Thursday before hosting Jackson Saturday.

The Rock Springs girls split their two Thursday matches, falling to Campbell County 3-2. Addie Aanerud provided one of the Tigers’ two victories, rallying to defeat Paedyn Coulter 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3) at No. 1 singles.

Harris and Pugmire earned Rock Springs’ other win at No. 2 doubles, defeating Urich and Holdeman 6-1, 6-0.

Campbell County won No. 2 singles, No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles.

As of time of publication no results were reported from Rock Springs’ Thursday matchup with Thunder Basin for the boys or girls.

The Tigers returned home Saturday and the girls defeated Jackson 3-2.

Rock Springs swept the three doubles matches to earn the team victory, including a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Jackson won both singles matches.

The Rock Springs boys lost to Campbell County 4-1 Thursday, with George and Heaton earning the Tigers’ lone victory at No. 3 doubles, defeating Fiedor and Zolnoski 6-3, 6-4.

Campbell County won both singles matches and the first two doubles matches.

Jackson then defeated the Rock Springs boys 5-0 Saturday. The Tigers’ closest match came at No. 1 doubles, where the match went to a tiebreaker before Jackson won 10-8.
