ROCK SPRING — If you attended a Rock Springs sporting event in the 70s, 80s or 90s, chances are you saw Bonnie Legerski behind the scorer’s table.
Bonnie will inducted into the Class of 2018 Rock Springs High School Hall of Fame this Saturday night at the Sweetwater County Events Complex.
The Saturday banquet highlights a week of activities honoring the Class of 2018, which features 11 individuals and two teams.
SweetwaterNOW, in association with Tanner Family Denistry, continues its profiles of the inductees as we get closer to the banquet and ceremony.
Edith “Bonnie” Legerski started her teaching career in Baggs, then went to Green River and Superior, Wyoming.
At this time a teaching certificate was good for only one year and Bonnie needed to continue taking classes during the summer to earn her degree.
Moving to School District #1
Bonnie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1961, and she came to Sweetwater County School District #1 in 1963.
Bonnie taught for 20 years as an elementary teacher and then finished her career with the district as a PE teacher. Bonnie retired from Sweetwater County School District #1 in 1996.
During her time with Sweetwater County School District #1, Bonnie was a sponsor for the Rock Springs High School Cheerleaders for five years.
During these five years, she also helped with keeping score for the Rock Springs High School volleyball team.
For Love of the Game
When she stepped down from her cheerleading sponsor position Bonnie continued to keep score at the high school level and college level for volleyball.
She also helped out at the junior high level keeping score for volleyball and basketball.
You could also find Bonnie in the spring/summer seasons at the baseball fields keeping score for Little League Baseball and Babe Ruth Baseball.
