ROCK SPRINGS – Although finishing fifth in this past weekend’s 4A West Regional Wrestling Tournament may not have been exactly what Rock Springs wanted, the Tigers had a strong tournament with almost every wrestler placing.

The Tigers had several wrestlers continue on the second day of action with Danny Macy leading the way. At 113, Macy had a strong Friday with a win in the quarterfinals by pin at the 1:17 mark of the match. On Saturday, Macy battled his way into the title match with a major decision over Evanston’s Garrett Foster, 14-4. In the finals, Macy faced a familiar foe for the title as he stared across the mat at Green River’s Nathan McCann. In one of the most exciting championship battles, both wrestlers battled and needed overtime to decide a winner. Macy was able to get McCann in OT, 5-1, to take the Regional Title.

While Macy marched through to a title, Trevor Ryan also battled through the 113 field to finish fourth. Ryan scored a pin at the 1:56 mark in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Ryan faced off against McCann. It was McCann who was able to take a close decision, 4-1. In the consolation semis Ryan found himself in another tough battle. He needed overtime but was able to beat Natrona’s Seth Cisneros 7-5. Ryan was beat in the third-place match to come away with fourth.

At 120, Wyatt Martinez came back from a loss in the quarters on Friday to move into the consolation semifinals. An injury forced Martinez to the side in the semifinals as he finished in seventh place for the Tigers.

Patrick Debaun had a strong tournament for the Tigers. He lost to the eventual 126 champ Chase O`Melia in the quarters. Debaun responded in a big way scoring falls in his next two matches to move into the consolation semifinals. Debaun and Natrona’s Jonathan Gasperetti battled for three hard periods with Debaun coming out on top, 8-6. In the consolation finals, Debaun kept going and was able to score a 13-5 major decision to claim third.

At 132, Slade Pitt went 2-2 with one win by fall to finish in sixth while Wyatt Yenney, also at 132, went 3-2 with two wins by fall as he finished up in seventh place. After an early loss at 138, Ira Dickinson bounced back with three wins to finish in seventh; Two of his three wins were by fall.

At 145, Joe Walker went 3-2 to finish in seventh. Walker’s three wins were all by the way of pin. Also at 145 was Tiger William Petrovich who had a strong Regional Tournament. Petrovich won his first two matches with first-period pins. He slipped a little in the semifinals but responded with two wins including another first period pin to claim third place for Rock Springs.

At 152, Christian Fennewald  went 3-2 to finish in seventh while Dawson Lorenz also went 3-2 in the 160 division for a seventh-place finish. At 182, John Nowland also made some noise for Rock Springs. He moved into the semifinals with a bye in the first round and a first period pin in the quarters. Nowland suffered a setback in the semifinals but responded with a strong 4-2 decision to move into the third place match. Nowland fought hard but finished in fourth with a 5-2 loss by decision.
