SWEETWATER COUNTY — Kaylee Moore wasted little time making her mark on the new swimming season, turning in a strong opening weekend for the Rock Springs High School girls while helping lead the Lady Tigers to a third-place finish at the Dale Ross Pentathlon in Rawlins.
Moore finished fourth overall in the pentathlon and recorded five top-10 finishes in varsity events, giving Rock Springs an early standout performance as both Sweetwater County programs opened their seasons.
Rock Springs scored 111 points to finish third in the team standings, while Green River opened its season at the Laramie Relays, finishing fifth among 11 teams with 264 points. The Lady Wolves also had athletes compete in a pentathlon in Laramie.
Rock Springs
Rock Springs finished third in the team standings at the Dale Ross Pentathlon with 111 points. Douglas won the team competition with 179 points, followed by Buffalo with 172. Lyman scored 89, Rawlins had 64 and Evanston finished with 13.
The Lady Tigers were led by senior Kaylee Moore, who put together a strong opening weekend while competing in all five pentathlon events. Moore finished fourth overall in the individual pentathlon standings and recorded five top-10 finishes in the varsity events.
She placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.10. Moore also finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:11.53, sixth in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:02.72, ninth in the 50-yard freestyle in 29.00 and 10th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:15.33.

Bree Ruiz added a third-place finish in the varsity 1-meter diving competition with 239.50 points.
Kendall Moore also turned in a consistent performance for Rock Springs, finishing 14th overall in the pentathlon. Her best individual finish came in the 50-yard freestyle, where she placed 14th in 30.30. She finished inside the top 20 in each of her five events.
Green River
Green River competed against a large field at the Laramie Relays, which included 11 teams from across Wyoming. Cheyenne Central won the team competition with 518 points, followed by Laramie with 444 and Thunder Basin with 432. Sheridan finished fourth with 322 points, while Green River placed fifth with 264.
The meet featured relay events, giving Green River an early opportunity to build chemistry and gain competitive experience in team races. The Lady Wolves placed sixth in the girls 400-yard medley relay with a time of 5:03.26. Green River also finished fifth in the girls 200-yard breast relay in 2:53.13.
Green River also entered two teams in the girls 13-14 200-yard freestyle relay, with the two teams finishing third and fifth. The third-place team posted a time of 2:21.24, while the fifth-place team finished in 2:26.39. The younger group provided an encouraging result as Green River continued to get its underclassmen experience in competition.

Green River also had Zoie Gilmore compete in the pentathlon. Gilmore finished 10th overall, posting times of 1:00.19 in the 100-yard freestyle, 1:10.10 in the 100-yard backstroke, 1:20.99 in the 100-yard breaststroke, 1:09.87 in the 100-yard butterfly and 27.78 in the 50-yard freestyle.
The opening weekend gave both programs an early measure of where they stand as they continue adjusting to new coaches and building toward the heart of the season. For Rock Springs, Moore’s performance provided an early highlight, while Green River showed depth with strong relay performances from both its varsity and younger swimmers.
The teams will meet again next weekend when Green River hosts the Green River Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 4-5. The meet will be the Lady Wolves’ first home competition of the season and will bring Rock Springs to Green River for another early-season test.
