Mullen Fire Now 161,069 Acres, 14 Percent Contained

ALBANY COUNTY — The Mullen Fire continues to grow and is now 161,069 acres and only 14 percent contained, according to an infrared scan completed last evening.

On Tuesday morning, a Mullen Fire Information Facebook post stated the Mullen Fire, which is about 38 miles west of Laramie, has grown to 161,069 acres and is 14 percent contained. The latest infrared scan was completed Monday night.

So far, 1,130 firefighters are at the scene of the fire, which continues to spread in both Wyoming and Colorado.

The Mullen Fire in burning in the Medicine Bow National Forest and was reported on September 17 in the Savage Run Wilderness. The fire quickly spread through extremely rugged terrain, with dense vegetation and beetle-killed deadfall.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the expected containment date is predicted to be October 30, 2020.
