OPAL – Blink and you might miss it. Rock Springs residents are very familiar with a small little place which sits just outside of Kemmerer. This summer, many more people learned about it after a gas-line explosion. For Opal they recently celebrated 100 years.
The Town of Opal was incorporated in 1914, one-hundred years ago, and on Saturday, September 13, residents and friends of the Town of Opal celebrated the town’s centennial.
The festivities began at 4 p.m. when a new “welcome” sign was unveiled at the west entrance of town. There was a BBQ at the newly renovated town park shortly thereafter, where nearly eighty participants enjoyed a lovely meal, camaraderie, good music and fun. Mayor Mary O. Hall and council members Tony Ritzdorf, Willa Roose, Les Broadhead and Bill Whiteford want to thank the residents and friends of Opal for their support of this historic event.
