PARK CITY, UTAH — The Parleys Canyon Fire is now at 80 percent containment and fire crews continue to leave the area, according to the latest InciWeb report.
This will be the final report from the Great Basin Team No. 4 and command of the Parleys Canyon Fire transitioned this morning to a local Incident Commander. At one point nearly 300 firefighters were on scene, that has since decreased to around 190 and more crews will be leaving today.
Since Tuesday, the Parleys Canyon area has continued to see rain, which has helped get this 541-acre fire under control.
The InciWeb report states fire crews do not anticipate fire growth in the next 72 hours due to significant rain and cool temperatures. After 72 hours, they anticipate the potential for minimal activity with forecasted warming and drying trend, however no growth is expected.
The Canyon area will continue to receive rain through Thursday with an additional 1/2 to 1 inch of rain. Precipitation amounts are already close to 1 inch across the fire ground. Another rain event is expected Saturday with roughly 1/4 of an inch expected, the report states. Temperatures will be at least 20 degrees below normal through Thursday.
The fire, which was caused when a catalytic convertor in poor working order ejected hot particles along the roadside, started Saturday, August 14.
