Partly sunny and warmer with a chance of snow by this afternoon

Graphical depiction of the weather story for today.Another cold front will quickly blast through the Cowboy State today. This system will bring snow across the west, as well as over the Bighorns and northern Johnson County. Winter weather advisories have been issued for these areas, from this afternoon into late morning New Year’s Day. Prior to the front’s passage, windy conditions will occur along wind prone locations. These winds will begin to diminish after sunset, but will still be breezy. Temperatures east of the Divide will rise above freezing. As a result, precipitation in the northern Big Horn Basin and Johnson County will be in the form of a rain/snow mix. By tonight, chances for snow will spread across the rest of the forecast area. However, accumulations will remain light.
