ROCK SPRINGS — A pedestrian was killed yesterday morning around 5:40 a.m. near milepost 133 eastbound on Interstate 80, between Rock Springs and Patrick Draw, according to the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).
Details of the accident are still under investigation by the Wyoming Highway Patrol. SCSO Public Information Office Jason Mower confirmed that his department was called to assist in the accident.
Initial reports that aired to all law enforcement agencies at 5:30 a.m. show that a semi-truck was stalled and on fire in the eastbound lane at milepost 133.
“About 10 minutes later, at 5:40, someone called in to say there was a man crossing the highway and he had just hit him with his vehicle,” Mower said. “The person pulled over and called it in, and watched as this person got hit by more vehicles.”
While the SO assisted on the scene, the accident has been turned over to the WHP. Attempts to contact Public Information Officer Jeremy Beck with the agency have not yet been returned this morning.
The name of the pedestrian and the driver who struck him have not been released as of 10:30 a.m. today.
SweetwaterNOW will provide more details on this situation as they develop.
