Sweetwater County Prevention Management Organization (PMO) presented the Rock Springs and Green River Police Departments with 13 new portable breathalyzers and seven new identification card scanners.
RSPD Chief Dwane Pacheco and GRPD Chief Chris Steffen were thrilled with the new equipment and acknowledged that they’re expensive pieces. Both law enforcement agencies use breathalyzers on a daily basis for situations ranging from enforcing court orders to traffic stops for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Chief Pacheco stated, “It is always beneficial to have new equipment to help officers detect potential levels of intoxication on scene.” Chief Steffen noted, “This will prevent underage access to alcohol at events with the ID scanners. With this new equipment, the department is able to continue to help keep the community safe in the daily work they do.”

This new equipment was purchased through PMO’s prevention dollars. Cassandra Crumpton, local Community Prevention Specialists says the partnership between PMO and law enforcement is one of the most important partnerships in local communities and across the state at preventing underage drinking as well as drinking and driving.
Research and data on effective prevention efforts have shown over the years that the combination of effective law enforcement and the PMO work of advancing evidenced based strategies is the best comprehensive prevention approach there is. We could not begin to make a positive impact without meaningful community partnerships like these.”
