Pronghorns Second Behind Three Titles; Lady Pronghorns Third

LANDER –  The Farson-Eden Pronghorns used three regional titles to finish the first day of the 1A West Championships in the second spot. The Lady Pronghorns sit in third after day one.

Lain Mitchelson took titles in the 800 and 3200 meters while Clancy Gines scored gold in Discus. The three titles gave Farson 54 points. They trail Little Snake River who finished with 58.50 to open the tournament.

On the ladies side, Farson posted top-five finishes all day and will have several opportunities for gold on Saturday.

The Lady Pronghorns title run came in the 4×100 relay. The team of Sierra Brunkhardt, Kenzi Reed, Carly Griffin and Maizee Thoren posted a time of 53.99 for the win. Dubois was second with a time of 55.92.

The strong opening has the Lady Pronghorns in third with 25 points. Cokeville leads the way with 56 while Encampment is second with 40.

 


Girls 100 Meter Dash Prelims

Both Sierra Brunkhardt and Maizee Thoren will run for titles on Saturday. Brunkhardt ran a 13.80 to finish in second while Thoren followed in fourth. Zoe Swanson finished in 14th.


Girls 200 Meter Prelims

Sierra Brunkhardt also had a strong 200 meters. Her time fo 28.92 put her in third after Friday’s prelims.


Girls 400 Meter Prelims

Kaytlyn Keeler led the way with a 10th place finish. Teammates Megan Owen and Nicole Cukale followed in 11th and 12th.

 

Girls 800 Meter Finals

Zoe Swanson was the top Lady Pronghorn with a 13th-place finish.


Girls 100 Meter Hurdles Prelims

Maizee Thoren’s time of 16.98 led the preliminary round on Friday. Kenzi Reed will join her in the finals with a fourth-place finish on Friday.


Girls 300 Meter Hurdles Prelims

Kenzi Reed will also run for a title in the 300 hurdles after a fourth-place finish on Friday.

 

Girls 4×100 Meter Finals

The team of Sierra Brunkhardt, Kenzi Reed, Carly Griffin and Maizee Thoren took home the title with a 53.99. Dubois was second with a time of 55.92.

 

Girls Triple Jump Finals

Maizee Thoren had a jump of 30-02.25 which place her in sixth overall. Megan Owen brought home a 10th-place finish for the Lady Pronghorns.

 

Girls Shot Put Finals

Carly Griffin just missed a regional title in the shot on Friday. Her throw of 32-04.00 put her in second. Encampment’s Cheyanne Jordan took the title with a throw of 33-05.00. Nicole Cukale finished in fifth for Farson.

 

Boys 100 Meter Prelims

Thomas Rezzonico led the way for the Pronghorns with a seventh-place finish in Friday’s prelims. Clancy Gines and Eddie Barlow finished 12th and 13th.


Boys 200 Meter Prelims

Carter Malec finished with a time of 26.28 to pace Farson. His time put him in seventh. Cody Sloan finished in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish while Thomas Rezzonico crossed in 11th.


Boys 400 Meter Prelims

Carter Malec will run for a title on Saturday after he ran a 55.84 to finish in second. Cokeville’s Wyatt Awtrey had the fastest time with a 55.31. Michael Gribowskas crossed in 10th followed by William Louderback in 11th.


Boys 800 Meter Finals

Lain Mitchelson took home the 1A West Regional championship after running a 2:08.69. Little Snake River’s JD Corson finished with a 2:10.09 followed by Pronghorn Carter Malec in third with a 2:10.97. Braxton Applequist brought home an eighth-place finish while Michael Gribowskas finished just outside the top ten in 11th.


Boys 3200 Meter Finals

Lain Mitchelson dominated with a time of 10:45.55 to capture his second title of the meet. HIs time was almost six seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Braxton Applequist locked down a top five finish crossing the line in the fifth position.

 

Boys 110 Meter Hurdles Prelims

Shad Sellers led Farson with an eighth-place finish with Miguel Loredo right behind in ninth.


Boys 300 Meter Hurdles Prelims

Thomas Rezzonico led the way in the 300 hurdles. He crossed the line in seventh on Friday. Michael Gribowskas locked down another top ten with a ninth-place finish. Shad Sellers came in 13th.


Boys 4×100 Meter Relay Finals

The Farson team of Cody Sloan, Eddie Barlow, Clancy Gines and Thomas Rezzonico finished in fourth.
              

Boys High Jump Finals

Lain Mitchelson led the way again jumping to a fifth-place finish.

 

Boys Long Jump Finals

Cody Sloan’s jump of 17-07.50 would be the best for Farson on the day. Sloan finished in the seventh position.


Boys Discus Throw Finals

It was all Clancy Gines as he took home a regional title. His throw of 121-01 dominated the field. Encampment’s Guy Erickson was second with a toss of 112-02. Farson’s Ryan Curtin finished in seventh for the Pronghorns.
