Red Flag Warning for Fire Conditions Issued for Sweetwater County

SWEETWATER COUNTY — The United States National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Red Flag Warning for Sweetwater County through Friday night.

According to a NWS special statement, the warning goes into effect today at 1 pm and will remain in effect until 9 pm Friday, July 9, for Sweetwater, Uinta, and Lincoln counties.

“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior,” the NWS stated.

Today, a west wind of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph can occur, while on Friday gusts could reach as high as 50 mph. Humidity will be around 9 percent and temperatures are estimated to be in the mid 90s. For a complete forecast, click here.
