Regional Volleyball Starts Friday

SWEETWATER COUNTY – Throw out all the regular season records as a new volleyball season is about ready to start. Teams from around the state will startĀ battling to keep their championship dreams alive.

On Friday, regional volleyball tournaments will get the post-season action underway. All three Sweetwater County teams will beĀ involved.

The ladies of Green River wrapped up a successful regular season and will begin their journey up the mountain. The pressure of regionals is off the Lady Wolves as they have already qualified for the state tournament.

Green River enters with a record ofĀ 7-3 in conference play and 18-9 overall. They will have Friday to rest and will open play on Saturday at noon.

For Rock Springs, the climb will be a bit steeper. The Lady Tigers enter the tournament in the sixth seed after finishing the season with a conference record of 0-10 and an overall record of 9-19. They will open play at 11 a.m. against a familiar foe, Natrona.

The Fillies are in the third seed finishing the season with an overall record of 21-10 including going 7-3 in conference play. The two teams faced each other twice this season with Natrona sweeping the series. On Sept. 19, Natrona beat the Lady Tigers in three games, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-16. On Oct. 17 it was the same result with the Fillies winning, 25-18, 25-9 and 25-14.

The Lady Pronghorns of Farson-Eden will also be looking to put the regular season behind them. They enter the tournament as the fourth seed from the southwest and will face the top team for the northwest, Burlington. Serving starts at 11:30 a.m.

The Lady Pronghorns were also blanked in conference play during the regular season while Burlington went undefeated in conference play in the northwest. This will be the first meeting this year between the two teams.
