ROCK SPRINGS — The Rock Springs City Council will consider a payment that will help tie up the city’s involvement with the First Security Bank Building during its meeting Tuesday night.
The Council will consider paying Gordon Crofts $55,000 to resolve an outstanding issue related to the building.
According to Council documents the issue stems from Crofts’ donation of the building to the city. The purchase agreement requested the building be returned to Crofts if renovation funding for the building didn’t develop. Funds came through, but only enough to demolish the building at 504 S. Main Street and extend the First Security Bank Building onto the lot. Due to that action, the lot can’t be returned to Crofts, which led him to request the city pay him $55,000 from the bank building’s sale.
The Council approved selling the building to developer Kody Watts Aug. 5 for $75,000. That sale came after months of discussions with developers and another attempted sale to Watts. The issue involving the bank building and the $55,000 request came up during the Aug. 5 meeting, with Councilman Rick Milonas raising the issue.
“So I guess he really didn’t donate then, he just gave it to us to hold until we could pay him for it,” Milonas said at the meeting.
The Rock Springs City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rock Springs City Hall. The meeting is open to the public and is streamed on the city’s YouTube channel. An agenda can be found here.
