ROCK SPRINGS – After several surprise retirement parties for now retired Rock Springs Public Services Director Vess Walker this past month, the Rock Springs Council and Mayor Carl Demhar officially said goodbye Tuesday night.
Walker started his work with the city in 2003. In his 12 years and four months of service, he has overseen several major developments in the city of Rock Springs. Included in these are the Waste Water Facility, the new Young-At-Heart Senior Center, the Broadway Theater and the Bunning Transfer upgrades.
For Demshar, he has always said these retirements are “bittersweet” for him because why he is happy to see them take the next step, he also knows they will be hard to replace. Tuesday’s retirement was a little more personal for Demshar.
“For me, I gonna miss Vess quite a bit,” Demshar said. “Whenever we had an issue come up, whenever there were things that needed to be discussed he and I seemed to meet eye to eye, we seemed to think a lot alike. ”
The plaque read the city extends its gratitude and appreciation for his unselfish devotion and distinguished service.
“And Vess, like I said. I am going to miss you, I want to wish you the best in the world,” Demshar continued. “I’m rather envious you’re going to be out having fun while we’re still trying to solve problems.”
Amy Allen was unanimously appointed to fill the vacated position and was sworn in at the end of last week at Rock Springs City Hall.
