ROCK SPRINGS — The Rock Springs City Council will begin hearing an ordinance aimed to reorganize the city’s Council wards before the 2026 elections.
The reorganization comes after the city determined the city’s wards have skewed population distributions. Currently, Ward II has a population of 8,720, while Ward I and Ward III have 5,149 and 5,043 residents, and Ward IV has 4,609. The proposal would redistrict wards to have more equal population distribution, with Ward III having a slightly smaller population to accommodate anticipated housing growth into 2030. The ordinance will have to undergo three readings before being adopted by the Council. If it isn’t tabled, the adoption will take place during the May 5 Council meeting.
The Council will also consider selling a fire engine to the Starr Township Volunteer Fire Department in Union Furnace, Ohio for $15,000. According to Council documents, the 2008 Rosenbauer pumper is not needed for the current or anticipated needs for the city. The purchase cost does not include the freight cost being charged to the volunteer fire department, which amount to $4,759.
The Rock Springs City Council meeting takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. Meetings are open to the public and are streamed on the city’s YouTube channel. A full agenda can be found here.
